So, it's been 5000 miles in my Volt in just about 5 months. What do I think now? I'm thrilled with it. Here are some of the stats you would expect:

3600 miles on EV, 1400 on gas (42 gallons).

119 average MPG so far.

87% of oil life still left.

$.80 Average cost for a full charge

32 miles average range on a charge

Here are some of the things I've learned:

The Volt isn't as efficient with electricity when it's cold out. By choosing to heat the seats and cabin, I cut into the miles quite a bit. I'm hoping that with springtime weather, my miles per charge will rise back to the 40 range from the low 30s. On the other hand, it could be driving style, the amount of elevation change, or other factors affecting it. Going through 4 seasons will fill in a lot more knowledge.

I have noticed that a lot of people are curious about the Volt and willing to engage in dialog about how it's a game changer. Working behind the scenes in an evangelical ministry, I started wondering why do I get that with the Volt, but not with my faith.I consider myself non-evangelical since I won't engage in a discussion of faith without clear invitation to do so. 1 Pet 3:15-16 But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.This gives me some opportunities, but it's simply not as visible an invitation to dialog as a red Volt.
